AMST - sustainable mixed-use development wins Mid-rent Award 2022
In AMST with 252 homes spread over 2 buildings, 80% are for medium-priced rental homes (varying from 40m2 to 140m2!) and 20% for homes in the free rental sector. Some of the mid-market rental homes are very suitable for larger families with a house size above 100 square meters, which is very exceptional in Amsterdam. Bart Meijer, CEO MRP: “We are happy and proud that MRP has won the Mid-rent Award for AMST. Mid-rent is essential to get the stalled housing market going. This award is a great encouragement for MRP to continue with this with a call to accelerate the realization of the development and construction opportunities for mid-market rent. I am proud of my team and our partners that we can realize this development."
AMST is centrally located opposite the Amstel station, close to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and various roads. It will be a dynamic place to live, work, meet and relax. The urban plinth includes a JUMBO supermarket, catering, a food market, an incubator and facilities for entrepreneurs. The project will be completed in mid-2023, designed by VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism, developed by MRP and realized by Heddes Bouw & Ontwikkeling
AMST - Mid-rent Award 2022
The event took place at the Provada stand of partner PropertyNL in the RAI Amsterdam and attracted a large audience. This year it was Sander Schimmelpenninck who opened the event. Then it was up to the two initiators Jimmy Kools of developer Sustay and Esther Geuting of consultancy Stec Groep to make it clear to the general public that something is really going on with the Dutch housing market.
The Mid-rent Award is an initiative of mid-rent developer Sustay and consultancy Stec Groep and works with partners TU Delft, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and PropertyNL. With the award, all parties want to put middle-rent initiatives even more in the spotlight. The segment adds a lot to the stalled housing market. For example, it provides a large group of Dutch people who are now falling between two stools to obtain affordable housing. Buying is often out of reach for middle incomes and people are not eligible for social housing. In addition, mid-market rent also ensures a flow from social rent and, for example, with seniors who leave a single-family home. The segment also mixes well with social rent and purchase, which results in even more mixed neighbourhoods.
