Municipality of Amsterdam and MRP sign realization agreement Verhalenhuis in Stadscentrum Osdorpplein

At PROVADA, the municipality of Amsterdam signed the realization agreement with MRP for the Verhalenhuis, the new art and cultural center in Stadscentrum Osdorpplein. The Verhalenhuis is a collaboration between the municipality, the Amsterdam Public Library, El Hizjra Amsterdam (Centre for Arabic art and culture), radio station FunX and Oxville Cinema. There will also be underground parking for over 400 bicycles. Het Verhalenhuis is part of the new-build project MIX Amsterdam, a development by MRP. It will house 528 rental apartments, including 162 social housing units, an open green courtyard, commercial spaces on the ground and first floors and 382 parking spaces. Het Verhalenhuis I New art and cultural centre in Amsterdam

Het Verhalenhuis will have a broad and active program for the neighborhood. It will be an open and accessible meeting place on the corner of the intersection of Stadscentrum Osdorpplein and Meer en Vaart, close to the lake Sloterplas. On the outside, the building is connected to the shops, restaurants and facilities in the city district and on the inside to the open, green inner garden, the green court.

Bart Meijer, CEO MRP: "The Verhalenhuis will be a connecting and inspiring place for residents, entrepreneurs and visitors in Stadscentrum Osdorpplein. It fits MRP's ambition to add art and cultural facilities in our projects wherever possible. In our realised project The Hub in Stadscentrum Osdorpplein, residents chose a line of poetry by poet Jahan Valianpour "Every neighbour is an unread book full of secrets and mystery" for the entrance of their apartments. The unique mural 'Chile Vencerá' has been restored and is now accessible to the public again. With MIX Amsterdam, in close cooperation with the City of Amsterdam and local residents, we will continue to work on realizing a high-quality, diverse living and working environment in the StadscentrumOsdorpplein in Amsterdam."

Het Verhalenhuis has a stylish and open architecture. To emphasize the significance of its special function, the corner of the Verhalenhuis is rounded. This creates a nice contrast with the rectilinear facades of the residential towers in MIX Amsterdam. The large glass façade makes the Verhalenhuis look open and inviting. Once inside, one is surprised by the double-height space in which the café is situated. The café becomes a place where local residents and visitors can enjoy a moment of relaxation. A large grandstand staircase then leads to the floor adjacent to the inner garden, which is public and can be used by anyone. Thus, the Verhalenhuis can also be entered from the inner garden, a great quality for this public space.
