MIX Amsterdam - a sustainable mixed-use development

MIX is developed according to MRP’s vision on building sustainable neighbourhoods. By making smart choices and incorporating innovation the impact of the build environment is minimized and the liveability for the people is increased. The green inner garden is public accessible and stimulates interaction between people. In addition, the green inner area contributes to the climate resilience and biodiversity of the neighbourhood. Also, in the finishing of the apartments sustainable choices are made and the apartments are equipped with a sustainable high-end kitchen and sanitary. The public bicycle parking will provide space for over 400 bicycles under the Verhalenhuis and there will be 382 new parking spaces in the public car park, which will be in direct open connection with the already realized public car park Parking Nieuw West of MRP. The ground floor will house shops, offices and the art and cultural centre the Verhalenhuis. The Verhalenhuis is a collaboration between the Amsterdam Public Library, El Hizjra (centre for Arabic art and culture), radio station FunX and Oxville Cinema. The art and culture centre will have a broad and active programme for the neighbourhood and will be an open and accessible meeting place.

Bart Meijer (CEO MRP): "MRP develops various inner-city mixed-use projects that add value to the immediate surroundings and the city. We are delighted that we now can start with the construction of the 528 apartments and commercial units in MIX Amsterdam and “Het Verhalenhuis” to add a new art and culture centre for all people in Amsterdam. In close cooperation with the Municipality of Amsterdam, our partners and local residents, we can continue working on realizing a qualitative, diverse living and working environment in the vibrant Stadscentrum Osdorpplein in Amsterdam New West."

Stadscentrum Osdorpplein - Colourful living at lake Sloterplas

Osdorpplein is the bustling city centre of Amsterdam Nieuw-West, right on the Sloterplas lake in a water-rich and green environment. The area is tangibly and visibly developing, making it increasingly a place where relaxation and experience go hand in hand. It is a place where people of all ages and cultures feel at home and can be themselves. Sandra Doevendans, district counsellor of Amsterdam Nieuw-West: "Stadscentrum Osdorpplein is one of the places where we have been investing together for years in more housing and offerings that contribute to meeting, connecting and imagination. MIX Amsterdam which includes the story house, the OBA, El Hizjra (centre for Arabic art and culture), radio station FunX and film house Oxville is a nice mix of offerings for young and old. Whether you want to make or experience culture, study, or just relax, it will all be possible soon. Together with MIX Amsterdam, the squares will be people's living rooms, because people make Nieuw-West!"

Niels Doodeman (Managing Director Heddes Bouw & Ontwikkeling) added: "It is a great compliment to be able to start this project after realizing the The Hub and the AMST projects for MRP. At a time when few projects are starting, due to the affordability of projects, we are getting it done together." Stadscentrum Osdorpplein is only 15 minutes away from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and historic downtown Amsterdam and is easily accessible by public transport. Different parking facilities are available in the surrounding like Parking Nieuw West of MRP and public bicycle sheds. The city centre itself is car-free with many amenities. There are more than 150 shops from national chains to unique specialty shops and a wide range of restaurants and bars and other services.

MRP's area development at Stadscentrum Osdorpplein consists of several phases with the aim of improving the quality of the city centre for residents, entrepreneurs, and visitors. In the first phase, MRP completed Parking Nieuw West with 229 parking spaces, a new Jumbo supermarket and commercial units in Don Bosco in 2020. In the second phase, The Hub project, MRP realized the new City Counter with offices for the municipality of Amsterdam, 37 owner-occupied apartments, 40 free sector rental apartments, commercial units and, for Woonzorg, 16 additional social housing units with a new courtyard garden and a communal space for residents. The second phase was fully completed in February 2023.

MIX Amsterdam is developed by MRP in cooperation with the municipality of Amsterdam, designed by de Architekten Cie., realization by Heddes Bouw & Ontwikkeling, project management during the construction by Drees & Sommer, investors Ymere and Union Investment.
