AMST Wins the Mixed Use Development Award
MRP Development wins the Mixed Use Development Award for the Netherlands with AMST. The prize has been awarded by the European Property Awards. This will include a mix of living, social and commercial spaces, a parking garage and a spacious bicycle shed. AMST is centrally located opposite Amsterdam Amstel station.

Affordable housing
80% of the homes, divided over 2 buildings, are intended for middle incomes and 20% are homes in the private rental sector. And some of the large mid-range rental properties are suitable for larger families. Carolien Schippers, director of Land & Development, Municipality of Amsterdam: “This is a justified award for the beautiful design of AMST. I am pleased that our joint efforts have resulted in recognition of this sustainable area development. And that in a unique place: the location, accessibility and affordable spacious homes for large families and facilities such as a supermarket, restaurants and a breeding ground. An unusual combination, a beautiful part of the city. And the design exceeded all our expectations ”.
Durable design
The architectural design of VenhoevenCS architecture + urbanism is based on the principles of the Chinese Hakka culture, which is known for its walled residential units with wooden interior facades around a courtyard with communal facilities. Jos-Willem van Oorschot, architect: “The architecture is inspired by the style of the existing Amstel station. The facades with the rhythm of concrete and preserved wood are unambiguous, elegant, urban and with a proud appearance that suits a metropolis like Amsterdam. ” The courtyards will be an oasis of peace with lots of greenery and wood. All roofs of the energy-efficient buildings are used to store rainwater in an innovative way, which is then used in a gray water system.

AMST wint de Mixed Use Development Award
MRP Development wint met AMST de Mixed Use Development Award voor Nederland. De prijs is toegekend door de European Property Awards. Hier komt een mix van wonen, sociale en commerciële ruimtes, een parkeergarage en een ruime fietsenstalling. AMST ligt centraal tegenover het station Amsterdam Amstel.
Bart Meijer, CEO van MRP: “We zijn zeer vereerd met de onderscheiding voor AMST, een nieuwbouwproject waarin we nauw samenwerken met de gemeente Amsterdam om dit mogelijk te maken. Deze duurzame en mixed-use ontwikkeling is een voorbeeld voor toekomstige stedelijke ontwikkelingen. AMST maakt betaalbaar wonen voor middeninkomens in het centrum van Amsterdam mogelijk.”
Betaalbare woningen
Van de woningen, verdeeld over 2 gebouwen, is 80% bestemd voor middeninkomens en 20% zijn woningen in de vrije huursector. En een deel van de grote middensegment huurwoningen is geschikt voor grotere gezinnen. Carolien Schippers, directeur Grond & Ontwikkeling Gemeente Amsterdam: “Dit is een terechte onderscheiding voor het mooie ontwerp van AMST. Ik ben blij dat onze gezamenlijke inspanningen hebben geleid tot erkenning van deze duurzame gebiedsontwikkeling. En dat op een unieke plek: de locatie, de bereikbaarheid en met betaalbare ruime woningen voor grote gezinnen en voorzieningen zoals een supermarkt, restaurants en een broedplaats. Een ongebruikelijke combinatie, een mooi stuk stad. En het ontwerp overtrof al onze verwachtingen”.
Duurzaam ontwerp
Het architectonisch ontwerp van VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism is gebaseerd op de principes van de Chinese Hakka-cultuur, die bekend staat om haar ommuurde wooneenheden met houten binnengevels rondom een hof met gemeenschappelijke voorzieningen. Jos-Willem van Oorschot, architect:” De architectuur is geïnspireerd op de stijl van het bestaande Amstelstation. De gevels met het ritme van beton en verduurzaamd hout zijn eenduidig, elegant, stads en met een trots uiterlijk dat past bij een wereldstad als Amsterdam.” De binnenhoven worden een oase van rust met veel groen en hout. Alle daken van de energiezuinige gebouwen worden ingezet om op een innovatieve manier regenwater te bergen dat vervolgens wordt gebruikt in een grijs water systeem.
