Cartesius opens Craamkamer for nature and biodiversity

Cartesius Utrecht is opening a Craamkamer, especially for the cultivation of trees and plants and the reuse of existing greenery that will soon be given a new place in the city district. Cartesius will be a new green and healthy urban district with a total of 2852 homes, with the aim of helping people live healthier and happier lives for longer. Greenery and biodiversity are an important part of this, before, during and after the realization. Trees, small existing greenery, such as shrubs and plants, are often removed to begin ground work. In the Cartesius Craamkamer, initiators and area developers Ballast Nedam Development and MRP give existing greenery a second life.

Green cooperation for climate

To prevent the seedlings and repositionable shrubs and plants from being lost, the Cartesius Consortium, consisting of Ballast Nedam Development and MRP, has entered into a partnership with Meerbomen.nu. Meerboomen.nu is a coalition of Stichting Nationale Boomfeestdag, Stichting MEERGroen, Caring Farmers and Urgenda. Their mission is to plant 1 million trees in the Netherlands by 2022 in order to improve the climate and biodiversity.
Cartesius pays extra attention to preserving the existing trees. Existing trees will be examined to see if they can be preserved for the future layout of Cartesius Park and/or the Green Loop around Cartesius. As a result, trees are not cut down unnecessarily and many are preserved for the future. Mature greenery in the immediate living environment contributes to lower stress levels and fits in with the Cartesius philosophy.
