Letter of intent regarding the creation of OBA XL on Osdorpplein
The Municipality of Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Public Library (OBA) and real estate developer MRP Development signed a letter of intent last week regarding the arrival of an OBA XL location in Centrum Nieuw-West, the area on and around Osdorpplein in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. In the agreement, the three parties have laid down an intention to build a new Public Library on the site of the Stadsloket at Osdorpplein 1000. The current building will eventually be demolished. The Stadsloket is moving to a new building in the area. In the planned new building at the old City Desk location, to be developed by MRP Development, a “library plus” of 3,000 to 3,500 square meters will be taken into account. In the coming years, Osdorpplein will be transformed into a highly urban residential and shopping area. The realization has already started earlier this year. Completion in 2023 The letter of intent is part of the multi-year plan of the OBA that was presented on 13 December. The agreement was signed by district councilor Ronald Mauer, Bart Meijer on behalf of MRP Development and Martin Berendse of the Amsterdam Public Library. The delivery of OBA XL on Osdorpplein is scheduled for 2023, subject to change. This location will probably become more than just a library. The intention is also to provide space for other functions, such as social facilities, culture, relaxation and catering. The development is in line with Centrum Nieuw-West's plans to become the center of Nieuw-West. The area should attract visitors from inside and outside Amsterdam. In addition, the district foresees a significant population growth from 150,000 to 180,000 inhabitants in 2025. It makes an expansion of the range of facilities necessary.

In de overeenkomst hebben de drie partijen een intentie vastgelegd over de bouw van een nieuwe Openbare Bibliotheek op de plek van het Stadsloket op Osdorpplein 1000.
Gemeente Amsterdam, de Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam (OBA) en vastgoedontwikkelaar MRP Development hebben afgelopen week een intentieovereenkomst getekend over de komst van een OBA XL-locatie naar Centrum Nieuw-West, het gebied op en rond het Osdorpplein in Amsterdam Nieuw-West.
In de overeenkomst hebben de drie partijen een intentie vastgelegd over de bouw van een nieuwe Openbare Bibliotheek op de plek van het Stadsloket op Osdorpplein 1000. Het huidige gebouw wordt op termijn gesloopt. Het Stadsloket verhuist naar een nieuw pand in de buurt. In de geplande nieuwbouw op de oude Stadsloketlocatie, te ontwikkelen door MRP Development, zal rekening worden gehouden met een “bibliotheek plus” van 3.000 tot 3.500 vierkante meter. De komende jaren transformeert het Osdorpplein naar een hoogstedelijk woon- en winkelgebied. De realisatie is daarvoor eerder dit jaar al gestart.
Oplevering in 2023
De intentieovereenkomst maakt onderdeel uit van het meerjarenplan van de OBA dat 13 december is gepresenteerd. De overeenkomst is ondertekend door stadsdeelbestuurder Ronald Mauer, Bart Meijer namens MRP Development en Martin Berendse van de Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam. Onder voorbehoud staat de oplevering van OBA XL op het Osdorpplein gepland in 2023. Deze vestiging zal waarschijnlijk meer dan enkel een bibliotheek worden. De intentie is ook om ruimte aan andere functies te bieden, zoals maatschappelijke voorzieningen, cultuur, ontspanning en horeca. De ontwikkeling past in de plannen van Centrum Nieuw-West om hét centrum te worden van Nieuw-West. Het gebied moet bezoekers van binnen en buiten Amsterdam aan gaan trekken. Daarbij voorziet het stadsdeel een flinke bevolkingsgroei van 150.000 naar 180.000 inwoners in 2025. Het maakt een uitbreiding van het voorzieningenaanbod noodzakelijk.
