After the summer holidays, a lot of work was done in the heart of Utrecht. If you happened to have recently walked the Oudegracht, you may have seen something of it. However, most of the progress takes place inside the building, out of sight. To give you an idea, below is an update of the inside and outside.
The new building is already clearly visible on the Oudegracht. The basement, the ground floor and the first floor have been installed. Work is in progress on the second floor. Then a steel construction is placed up to and including the roof floor. The contours of the new building are thus becoming increasingly visible.
Recesses are being made in the existing building, for example for the escalators of the library, and a lot of steel construction is being installed. In the basement up to and including the first floor, work is underway on the constructions in connection with the new functions in the building. On the third floor, the windows are installed in the hood. This offers a nice view of the city and provides a lot of daylight in the former attic. Most of the ceilings have also already been installed here. In the meantime, the installation of ceilings on the second floor has also started. The phasing out will go from top to bottom.
In addition to the construction work, the installation of the installations is an important part of the redevelopment of the building. With this we are making a huge leap in energy saving and sustainability. Air ducts and sprinkler pipes will be installed in the coming period.
Nightly work
The supply takes place from the Potterstraat. All materials are lifted into the building with the tower crane. Large and heavy items must be transported at night on the instructions of the municipality. Agreements have been made about this with the municipality. We do everything we can to prevent local residents from being inconvenienced by this. However, we cannot rule that out completely.

Construction will be halted in the week of Christmas and New Year's Eve. So in week 52 and week 1 there will be no work and no supplies will take place.

Update Post Utrecht
Na de zomervakantie is er in hartje Utrecht veel werk verzet. Als u toevallig onlangs over de Oudegracht hebt gelopen, heeft u daar wellicht iets van gezien. Echter, de grootste voortgang vindt plaats binnenin het gebouw, uit het zicht. Om u een beeld te geven volgt hieronder een update van binnen en buiten.
Aan de Oudegracht is de nieuwbouw al goed te zien. Het souterrain, de begane grond en de eerste verdiepingsvloer zijn aangebracht. Aan de tweede verdiepingsvloer wordt gewerkt. Daarna wordt een staalconstructie geplaatst tot en met de dakvloer. De contouren van de nieuwbouw worden zo steeds beter zichtbaar.
In het bestaande gebouw worden sparingen gemaakt, bijvoorbeeld voor de roltrappen van de bibliotheek, en wordt veel staalconstructie aangebracht. In het souterrain tot en met de eerste verdieping wordt gewerkt aan de constructies in verband met de nieuwe functies in het gebouw. Op de derde verdieping zijn de ramen aangebracht in de kap. Dit biedt een mooi uitzicht op de stad en zorgt gelijk voor veel daglicht op de voormalige zolder. Tevens is hier het grootste deel van de plafonds al aangebracht. Inmiddels is ook gestart met het aanbrengen van plafonds op de tweede verdieping. De afbouw gaat van boven naar beneden.
Naast de bouwkundige werkzaamheden is het aanbrengen van de installaties een belangrijk onderdeel van de herontwikkeling van het pand. Hiermee maken we een enorme sprong in energiebesparing en duurzaamheid. De komende periode zullen luchtkanalen en de sprinklerleidingen worden gemonteerd.
Nachtelijke werkzaamheden
De bevoorrading geschiedt vanaf de Potterstraat. Alle materialen worden met de torenkraan de bouw in gehesen. Grote en zware stukken moeten op aanwijzing van de gemeente ’s nachts worden getransporteerd. Daar zijn met de gemeente afspraken over gemaakt. Wij doen er alles aan om te voorkomen dat omwonenden hier hinder van hebben. We kunnen dat echter niet helemaal uitsluiten.

In de week van Kerst en Oud & Nieuw ligt de bouw stil. Dus in week 52 en week 1 wordt er niet gewerkt en vindt er geen bevoorrading plaats.
