Healthy Urban Living comes together with La Vuelta Holanda at Cartesius Utrecht

More than 2,800 homes will be built in the Cartesius urban oasis in Utrecht, next to Zuilen railway station. Cartesius, inspired by the scientific theory of the Blue Zones, will be a lively, sustainable and healthy urban district with parks, a primary school, a sports hall, a supermarket with an organic and healthy range, catering and space for culture and recreation. Onno Dwars, CEO Ballast Nedam Development, "Cycling helps with a healthy and social lifestyle, which lifestyle is central to the Cartesius area development. Utrecht is the international paradise for cyclists according to the Global Bicycle Cities Index. Cycling is not only a fun social activity but is also an excellent way to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, improve your fitness and resistance and prevent diseases. We are proud to be a sponsor of this great event that puts the beautiful cycling city of Utrecht in the spotlight."

Innovation, sustainability and health fit in seamlessly with the ambitions that La Vuelta Holanda has in organizing the three stages of the great Spanish cycling tour in the Netherlands.

Cartesius - natural movements is the standard

Paul Trip, Special Advisor Development MRP: “In Cartesius, natural movement is central. The neighborhood has been designed for bicycles and there is a new bicycle connection with the city center through a bicycle tunnel under the central railway from Amsterdam to Utrecht. There will be a residential area where people live longer healthy and happy lives and where the social environment is an important factor for people's well-being. Full use can be made of shared mobility, public transport and good cycling and walking connections.” Cartesius residents are offered attractive alternatives to the car and other mobility options with the help of a smart mobility offer. It will also be easy for visitors to Cartesius to make sustainable mobility choices. Sufficient and comfortable bicycle sheds in combination with bicycle paths facilitate the cyclist optimally. In the first two phases, a large number of shared cars will be put into use.
Simone Richardson, project director La Vuelta Hollanda: “We are very pleased that MRP and Ballast Nedam Development are sponsoring La Vuelta Hollanda on behalf of Cartesius, thereby helping to make the start of the team time trials and the first sustainable Green Caravan in Utrecht possible”. On August 19, We Drive Solar will ride on behalf of Cartesius in the Green Caravan with a V2G (bidirectional) Hyundai IONIQ 5 shared car. The Green Caravan is a world first at the cycling event. The vehicles in the caravan are not only sustainable but also have a sustainable message to the public.
