NS has transferred the land intended for the second phase of the area development and the CAB to the Cartesius Consortium (Ballast Nedam Development and MRP) and CBRE Investment Management. Cartesius is a former NS work site adjacent to Utrecht Zuilen station and close to the historic city centre. Cartesius Utrecht is a healthy urban city district inspired by the scientific theory of the Blue Zones. Blue Zones are areas where people demonstrably live longer healthy and happy lives. In the total planning area there is room for approximately 3,000 homes and a large number of facilities. The area development will be realized in various phases in the coming years.
